Abstract
Vatashleshmik Jwarghna Granules (VJGr), a proprietary polyherbal ayurvedic formulation has been used clinically to treat influenza . VJGr comprises granules of 12 herbs Vasa (Adhatoda vasica ), Kantkari (Solanum surattense), Haridra (Curcuma longa), Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia), Sunthi (Zingiber officinale), Bharangi (Clerodendrum serratum), Talish Patra (Abies webbiana), Bhumyamalaki (Phyllanthus urinaria), Madhuyashthi (Glycyrrhiza glabra), Tulsi Patra (Ocimum sanctum), Marich (Piper nigrum), and Lavang (Syzygium aromaticum). The present study evaluated the sub-acute toxicity study along with the limit test of VJGr in the Wistar rat’s experimental model as per the guidelines of the Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) 407. A Subacute Toxicity study was conducted in three groups (Control, two testing groups with two dose levels of 500 and 1000 mg/kg body weight once a day) for 28 days. There were no alterations in the general behavioral parameters. Clinical chemistry values and hematological parameters were found to be significantly similar in comparison to the control group after the completion of the study. Moreover, the vital organs (heart, kidney, liver) also showed no histopathological evidence of pathological lesions. The study found that VJGr exhibited no toxic effects and may be effectively used to treat influenza
