Abstract
ABSTRACT:
Introduction: Pharmacovigilance stands as a vital element in every medical intervention, prioritizing the enhancement of patient safety. House surgeons represent the future of health care industry and play a crucial role as the upcoming caretakers of patients. They should have basic understanding, knowledge, and positive attitude towards pharmacovigilance practices. Aim: The aim of the study was to assess the Knowledge, Attitude and practice (KAP) of Ayurveda House surgeons regarding Pharmacovigilance and ADR reporting. Material and methods: A cross-sectional survey using self-administered, close-ended questionnaire having 19 questions to pharmacovigilance and ADR reporting was conducted between April 2023 and March 2024. The data was compiled in Microsoft Excel spreadsheet in MS Office 2010. Question-wise analysis was made and their percentage value was calculated with the help of STATA/SE 18.0 software. Results: Among 300 participants, 81% were aware of the pharmacovigilance program, and 97.67% recognized ADRs. However, only 33.67% knew whom to report ADRs to. In the study 96% of subjects considered it as their responsibility to report the misleading advertisements. But it was found that only 6% of participants reported ADR. Key barriers to ADR reporting included fear of legal repercussions and lack of interest. Conclusion: Participants in the present study had a comparatively good knowledge and favorable attitude towards pharmacovigilance system and ADR reporting. However, the practice needs considerable improvement. Particularly, the lack of awareness regarding ADR reporting could be effectively tackled through targeted awareness programs and hands-on training sessions focused on ADR reporting procedures.
