A Randomized Controlled Trial of Palasadi Basti and Pathadi Choorna versus Metformin Hydrochloride in the Management of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (Artavadushti).

Abstract
Introduction: Polycystic ovarian Syndrome is a common endocrine disorder that affects 4-18% of reproductive–aged women and 9 -30% of adolescent girls. We aimed to evaluate and compare the effect of Palasadi Basti & oral administration of Pathadi Choorna with that of Metformin Hydrochloride in the management of PCOS. Methodology: This single-centre, open-label, randomized controlled trial was conducted between April 2017 and November 2018. A total of 96 women diagnosed with PCOS based on the Rotterdam criteria and meeting the inclusion criteria were randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to receive either an Ayurvedic treatment protocol or standard medication for 3 months. The outcome parameters included intergroup variations in menstrual cycle interval, the duration and quantity of menstrual bleeding, BMI changes, reductions in the waist-to-hip ratio and the rate of conception among infertile individuals. Statistical analysis was performed using the t-test, the Wilcoxon signed-rank test & Mann–Whitney U test. Results: Ayurvedic treatment group showed significantly greater improvement in weight reduction & menstrual symptoms compared to Metformin group. Higher conception rates were noted among infertile women in the Ayurvedic group. Conclusion: Palashadi Basti and Pathadi Choorna were found to be more effective than Metformin Hydrochloride in improving the signs and symptoms of PCOS.
