Abstract
Introduction: Vitiligo is a common autoimmune pigmentary disorder of great socio-medical importance. It is characterized by white spots on the skin due to melanocytes deficiency. It can be correlated with presentation of Shvitra mentioned in Ayurveda. Many Ayurvedic drugs are beneficial in such cases and Marichyadi Lepa is one among them. Aim: To evaluate and compare the efficacy of Marichyadi Lepa prepared with two different methods in the management of Shvitra. Materials and Methods: Total 60 patients of Shvitra were randomly grouped into two. Patients registered in Group A (n = 30) were treated with Marichyadi Lepa prepared with Agnipaki method and Group B (n = 30) with Marichyadi Lepa prepared with Bhanupaki method for 2 months. Abhayarishta (10ml) along with equal quantity of water was given twice daily internally
in both the groups. Results: Significant improvement was found in the symptoms of Shvitra with treatment in both the groups. The difference in between the groups was statistically insignificant. Conclusion: Both forms of Marichyadi Lepa are effective as local application along with Abhayarishta as internal medication in cases of Shvitra and can be good alternatives for contemporary medicines. Insignificant difference between both groups suggests that, both pharmaceutical procedures are equally effective. Hence, if time is the issue than Agnipaki method can be used and if cost is the matter than Bhanupaki method to be used.
