Abstract
Ayurveda states that diseases are caused due to vishama doshas which includes vruddhi as well as kshaya. But clinically, often vrudhhi is given more significance than kshaya in causation of disease, leaving behind the role of ksheena doshas in contributing to vyadhi samprapti. This obscurity might be due to lack of understanding on the significance of ksheena doshas and its evident role in vyadhis. Hence this article aims to “Comprehend the concept of dosha kshaya,” and to “Understand its relevance in clinical practice”. The objectives of article are fulfilled by reviewing the broader aspect of dosha kshaya which includes kshaya karanas, its clinical presentations, lakshanas, chikitsa for ksheena doshas etc. from classics. To accomplish the clinical relevance, a cross sectional survey with sample size of 50 using a standardized questionnaire was carried out among currently practicing Ayurvedic physicians in Bengaluru. Among this, 77% of samples opted that comprehending dosha kshaya in clinical practice is must. 19% of samples opted that comprehending dosha kshaya in clinical practice is needed, but not always. 1% of sample has opted that, knowledge on dosha kshaya is not essential for treating. 3% of sample has opted that knowing about dosha kshaya would not significantly alter the course of treatment. Based on constructed review and statistical data, it was found that there is a need to increase awareness about clinical significance of dosha kshaya among current practitioners. Based on discussion, the possible nidanas of dosha kshaya in present era, role of ksheena doshas in differential diagnosis, ksheena doshas as predisposing factors for diseases etc were analysed.

Key words: Ksheena doshas, Vata kshaya, Pitta kshaya, Kapha kshaya.
